Dr. Mckee is a fully licensed plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has a faculty position at the University of British Columbia, in the Department of Surgery. He trained fully in Canada, at the University of Ottawa medical school, and McMaster University for plastic surgery residency. Additional fellowship training was completed at Dalhousie University. Dr. Mckee also obtained additional training at the Mclean Clinic in Toronto - a centre of excellence for top surgery procedures. Top surgery became an area of expertise in Ontario prior to starting his practice in British Columbia.
He performed additional training in California focusing on gender-affirming surgery.
He currently performs gender-affirming chest surgery at Burnaby general hospital and several other surgery centres in the Vancouver area. He chose this area of expertise and comments: “I know the positive impact that gender-affirming surgery can have psychologically for transgender patients. I went into medicine in order to help people.” Dr. Mckee has published widely in academic journals and textbooks. He has been an invited speaker at International conferences - including an invited panel speaker on chest surgery at the 50th annual meeting for the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), in San Diego, California. In Vancouver, in addition to performing gender-affirming top surgery, Dr. Mckee also performs other types of reconstructive surgeries for victims of cancer, trauma, and burns - and also for patients with functional impairment. In December 2019, Dr. Mckee took one month away from his Canadian practice and travelled to Namibia, Africa where he volunteered his time operating alongside a group of international surgeons with the organization Steps2Walk.org - operating on African children with foot and ankle birth defects that went untreated in their communities. He also was an invited keynote speaker for the Steps2walk conference - teaching African surgeons and healthcare workers about reconstructive surgery techniques.
